Rule number 3 comes from this text:
"God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth." |
Brenneman's interpretation of this claims that one must reveal the truth about themselves to God, regardless if the truth is full of sin, for God may forgive you. Something I found interesting is the word choice "forgive you what you are, and to make you what you ought to be." If I were to interpret the line of text from the bible, I would simply say it means "tell the truth." Brenneman may have added other text to the pot for he most likely has read much more and is able to add to the discourse. However, I also see how one interpretation of a line can mean something simple to one person and mean much more to another. Brenneman associated this line with fate, saying that God can make you into what you are supposed to be. The text doesn't actually say that, but reading further into the text and utilizing intertextuality can aid you in making more inferences.
